HELPING HANDS WINNER

 HOA:  Lakes of Parkway Women's Club 

Submitter: Cathy Wozniak, Planned Community Management Inc., AAMC

AniMeals on Wheels: Provides pet food to home bound seniors that receive help from Meals on Wheels.  This encourages the seniors to eat their own meals without having to share feed with their pets. In November 2011 they donated over 400 pounds of pet food to this charity.  They have donated more than 2,000 pounds of pet food to this project.


 



CONSERVATION WINNER

Texas Brigades and Wildlife Intensive Leadership Program (WILD) 

Submitter: Nancy Calloway, SCS Management, Inc.

Travis Peterson a senior at Cy Lakes High School has placed sewer markers on every inlet in the 7 Houston neighborhoods in hopes that this will deter residents from dumping harmful trash and debris into the storm drains, where it eventually dumps untreated into Galveston Bay.  He had installed 300 to date and his goal is up to 500.   

SPECIAL EVENTS WINNERS

HOA:  Lakes of Parkway Women's Club

Submitter: Cathy Wozniak, Planned Community Management Inc.,

Child Advocates Stocking Project: Child Advocates is an organization who trains volunteers to be court-appointed guardians to the most severe child abuse cases in Harris County.  The Lakes of parkway Women's Club created the idea of providing Christmas stocking to as many children as possible.  In 2004, they stuffed 125 stockings and in 2011 they provided 800 stockings and reached a total of 1,250 stockings with the help of their partners.  The women's club made a commitment to donate a minimum of $2,000 each year towards this project. 

CREATIVE SOLUTIONS WINNER

HOA: Glenshannon Reserve Community Association

Submitter: Sherri Carey, PCAM, High Sierra Management Company

Helping a Hoarder: Several residents and companies worked together to help a resident with acknowledging the problem and providing temporary assistance in lieu of pursuing further legal action that would ultimately cost the Association significant funds, further delay of a resolution and in the end not help the individual in need.   

BEAUTIFICATION WINNER

HOA: Clear Lake City Community Association

Submitter:  Shelly Haralson,

CLCCA organized a clean-up day:  University Green community is a  particular piece of land considered a right of way by the City of Houston and only gets mowed twice a year.  Thirty people came out to help trim bushes and trees, rake the area and make the landscaping more attractive
